Tipping in New Zealand

Comment

Tipping is a common practice, especially in places such as America. However, in New Zealand it is not required that you tip businesses extra over and above the cost of your product or service.

Most New Zealand businesses in the food industry will have a tipping jar on their counter, which clients are welcome to put a few cents or dollars, or if you’re feeling really generous feel free to give whatever you please. The staff will likely either share the funds, or use them for staff work dos and outings.

It is not common practice to tip taxi drivers in New Zealand either.

If you wish to leave a tip, the business will be more than grateful, but you are not obliged to and they will not be expecting it.
